Power Dept refutes charges of negligence in Kavlem deaths

PONDA: The Electricity Department on Monday refuted allegations made by the locals holding the department responsible for recent incident wherein a man and his son died due to electrocution on a terrace at Kapileshwarim, Kavlem.
Executive Engineer Sunil Wadekar and Assistant Engineer Bartan on Monday said the media recently reported that the father-son duo died due to electrocution on terrace of house at Kapileshwarim and the some locals blamed the electricity department for negligence on its part. 
Refuting the charges, Bartan who visited the spot along with other officials said, “We are pained by the incident. As soon as we received the message, I led the team to the house. As alleged, we did not find any live wire on terrace neither any service wire connected to the terrace or any HP, LT electrical network passing above or near the premises.  Our LT is 35 metres away from the house.  The service wire was found intact and was connected below the terrace of the house.”
“As the sarpanch directed us to disconnect service wire from pole citing leakages, our JE disconnected the power supply. During our inspection, we did not find any live wire on the terrace.   These deaths may be accidental electrocution,” they said.
Police are investigating the case.
