PANJIM: Goa will soon be lit by LED lights, with Electricity Department set to distribute 15 lakh LED bulbs to 4.89 lakh consumers from July 8 under the Union Ministry’s ‘Ujala Scheme’.
Addressing media persons, Power Minister Milind Naik said that from July 8 to July 17, the 9 watt bulbs would be made available to consumers free of cost at 227 places across the State. “We will distribute 15 lakh bulbs to 4.89 lakh consumers,” he said.
Asked what will be the amount the government will shell out as subsidy for the bulbs, he said, it would amount to Rs 11 crore and despite this, the govt would save Rs 6 crore annually due to lower consumption of power by these bulbs.
