CALANGUTE: Frequent power outages in several parts of Calangute have caused severe hardships to residents, especially those students answering their board and school examinations.
While the erratic power supply and the intense heat have made it difficult for business establishments and residents alike, electricity department officials attributed the power cuts to low voltage problems and excess consumption due to the heat.
“There has been continuous power supply failure for at least five times since the last few days, causing inconvenience to children answering their exams. We are also at receiving end due to growing heat, which is unbearable. How can students study with no lights and unbearable heat? How can we also remain inside our houses without fans for hours together,” asked Rajesh Kandolkar.
Rishu Naik, a student, added, “It becomes difficult to study with no power supply and heat at its peak now. It is the same story every year.”
When contacted, Assistant Engineer K Chandran of the Calangute electricity department admitted that power supply has been very low, leading to the power cuts.
“Besides, there is more power consumption due to the heat and we are trying to take care of this problem,” said Chandran.
