PANJIM, AUG 23
Public Prosecutor in the German minor rape case has sought time till September 15 to convince victim’s mother to get the victim for deposition.
The case has received a major set back after 14-year-old girl’s German mother earlier this month told court that the victim will not depose before the Goa Children’s Court and she does not want to continue with the case.
The mother, who had accused Education minister Babush Monserratte’s son, Rohit of sexually abusing her daughter, in a letter to the Court  as well as to through an email to the Calangute Police station had said that she has no intention to pursue the case against Rohit Monserratte.
“I have no intention to pursue the case against Rohit Monserratte as my daughter does not remember anything and will not depose in the matter,” the mail reads.
Accordingly, court had given last opportunity to the PP Poonam Bharne to convince the victim to depose in the court today. However, PP failed to convince the victim mother.
In February, 2010, Court had recorded the statement of the German mother, who had accused 21-year-old Rohit, of raping her daughter in 2008.
Rohit was booked under Goa Children’s act and various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and sending lewd SMSs to the minor girl.
Rohit had deposed before the police on November 1, 2008 and went into hiding.
However, on November 4, he surrendered himself before the Calangute police station.
He was later granted bail by the Children’s Court.
