PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee president Pratima Coutinho on Wednesday stated that the party should consider women as candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing media persons, Coutinho expressed her desire to contest the Lok Sabha election from South Goa if given the opportunity. “I feel that women candidature should be considered by the party for Lok Sabha election considering the work done by them,” she said. “If my party tells me then, I would definitely like to contest the election from South Goa,” Coutinho added.
Earlier, Coutinho alleged harassment by police in the molestation case, wherein she has been booked for revealing the identity of a minor victim. She said she was being harassed as “an accused in the molestation case due to an influential minister in Goa government.”
“All attempts are being made to harass me to suppress my voice. Mahila Congress has taken up several causes in the State creating uncomfortable situation for the State government due to which I am being attacked this way using police machinery,” she said.
