PANJIM: Churches, chapels and Catholic institutions all over the archdiocese of Goa and Daman held services on Tuesday, to mark the day when Pope Francis inaugurated his ministry to the Church and to the world.

Parish Priests, chaplains, rectors of church institutions and superiors of religious communities in the Archdiocese conducted prayer services and celebrated Mass on Tuesday, which is also celebrated as the feast of Saint Joseph, patron of the universal church.

Incidentally, the anticipated Chrism Mass on March 21 at the Cathedral Church at Old Goa at 10 am will be also the Thanksgiving Mass for the new Pope. Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao is presently out of station on an official programme.

While celebrating Mass in Panjim, the Church spokesman Fr Francisco Caldeira dwelt on the feast of St Joseph who is the patron of the universal church.

“The pope also wanted this celebration to be held on the feast of St Joseph and his court of arms carries the symbol of St Joseph. The pope needs all the prayers for the fulfilment of his task, to be loyal to Jesus while being attentive to what the Church and humanity need in modern times,” said Fr Caldeira, during his homily.
