PANJIM: As the 48-hour deadline set for Manohar Parrikar to resign as Chief Minister ends, the like-minded citizens under the banner ‘People’s march for Restoration of Governance in Goa’ will hold public meeting at Azad Maidan on Saturday to press for the resignation.
Several hundred people, on November 21, had marched to the private residence of CM Parrikar demanding his resignation. Opposition parties including Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP were part of the protest. They had set 48-hours ultimatum to Chief Minister.
Social Activist Aires Rodrigues on Friday said that they will holding Public Meeting at Azad Maidan to press for their demand. They have also decided to target Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha over her inaction in the matter.
“Parrikar for the last nine months have been ailing very grievously and administration has come to a standstill while Goa governor who have constitutional responsibility to step in such a situation, she is silently watching this whole show while the ministers are doing whatever they want,” Rodrigues said.
“From tomorrow onwards, it will not be just Parrikar but our target will be inaction by Goa Governor Mridula Sinha who does not deserve to continue as Governor,” he said.
“In a situation like this she could not continue as a mere spectator but should act and take some action so that the governance returns to Goa,” he added.
Meanwhile, the health condition of National RTI award winner Rajan Ghate, who entered eigth day of his hunger strike, is now stable. The health had deteriorated on Thursday night after he complaint of chest pain.
“I will continue my hunger strike till our demand is met. We want the administration to function. Parrikar cannot take entire Goa for ransom for his personal political gains,” Ghate said.
BJP has already said that they are not bothered about hunger strike by Ghate, as it is been sponsored by Congress. “Ghate can hold hunger strike as many days as he wants,” BJP president Vinay Tendulkar had said.

DM orders SDPO to shift Ghate to GMC
As the hunger strike by the RTI Activist Rajan Ghate entered the ninth day, the Collector and DM, North Goa has directed the SDPO, Panaji to immediately to transfer him to the Goa Medical College for medical treatment. The order issued by the Collector Levinson Martins said that in view of the hunger strike his office had directed Dean Goa Medical College to conduct a medical checkup of Rajan Ghate in order to provide him necessary medical aid if required. “As per report submitted by doctor, GMC, dated 21/11/2018and 22/11/18 wherein doctor has advised urgent admission of said activist for intravenous nutrition administration,” the order states.Further, the order adds, the Dy Collector & SDM was asked to meet the activist and persuade him to withdraw the hunger strike in view of his medical report.
