PANJIM: The students studying in Class I to IV are most likely to get their set of free notebooks, raincoats and uniforms in the very first week when the schools are set to reopen on June 6 for the new academic year 2019-20. Nearly one lakh students studying in government and government aided primary schools are eligible for the benefit.
The department has placed its order for raincoats and uniforms with the State Khadi and Village Industries Board, the notebooks would be provided by Goa Sahakar Bhandar.
Director of Education Nagaraj Honnekeri said this time the department would ensure that the free raincoats, uniforms and notebooks are made available to the students in the very first week, when school reopens.
“Each student will get one set of two 200 pages and two 100 pages notebooks on the school reopening day. Our officials are on their toes to ensure there is no delay in service,” he said.
Honnekeri said that the State Khadi Board, which has been sourced by us to supply uniforms, is yet to issue the work order to the bidder due to election code. “That will be done now and we are sure there won’t be any delay,” he said.
As per information, the notebooks have already been supplied by the Goa Sahakar Bhandar; by the coming week, the department will distribute them to the respective taluka level education offices.
Last year, over 90,000 students had benefited.
The department has often found itself at the receiving end over delay in distribution of raincoats, uniforms and notebooks to the students. However, the department is making all efforts to ensure that the supply is streamline.
Though, this year the department has set the target of first week, the two-and-half month long Code of Conduct could derail the plan.
