Projects worth Rs 200 cr for Navelim, Benaulim

MARGAO: The government has sanctioned underground power cabling and sewerage projects in Benaulim and Navelim worth around Rs 200 crore, besides a full-fledged health centre at Navelim and widening of the NH-17 from Navelim to Chinchinim.

MARGAO: The government has sanctioned underground power cabling and sewerage projects in Benaulim and Navelim worth around Rs 200 crore, besides a full-fledged health centre at Navelim and widening of the NH-17 from Navelim to Chinchinim.

While Rs 83 crore worth underground cabling work will soon get underway in Benaulim, the government has sanctioned similar work in Navelim constituency worth Rs 47.13 crore. Besides, Benaulim constituency will soon receive sewerage network in Colva village worth Rs 26 crore, while GSIDC will take up work of road network in the constituency after the laying of the sewerage line.

After a review meeting with senior government officials at the district library at Navelim, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said the government has already issued work order to the contractor and work on the underground cabling in Benaulim will start immediately. “As far as Navelim is concerned, we have sanctioned underground cabling project worth Rs 47.13 crore. The proposal has been forwarded to the Chief Electrical engineer for approval”, he said.

On the sewerage front, he said work on the underground line has already commenced in Navelim, while the government has cleared a sewage line worth Rs 26 crore in Benaulim, excluding the sewage treatment plant.

Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado told the media that the government has agreed to his proposal to widen the NH-17 from Navelim to Chinchinim on a priority basis. “Since land for the highway already stands acquired, there will be no delay in executing the project”, Avertano said. He further said that most of the developmental projects mooted by him in Navelim are in the advanced stage of finalisation, exuding confidence that most of the projects will take off soon.

Meanwhile, Parrikar said the GSIDC will take up construction work on the Navelim health centre, adding that the government has given its sanction for 16 posts to man the centre.
