MARGAO: Two major developments work are expected to take off shortly in Velim constituency: the first, a promenade of River Sal alongside the Assolna–Cavelossim Bridge, and the second, replacing all existing overhead lines and electric poles in six villages of Velim constituency.
Velim MLA Benjamin Silva stated that the 1.4 stretch of the approach road of the bridge is being developed into a walking track by the PWD using interlocking tiles. The work is expected to be completed by the year end. 
The power department will replace all existing overhead lines and electric poles in Dramapur-Sirlim, Sarzora, Chinchinim, Assolna, Velim and Ambelim to eradicate constant power outages suffered by residents in these villages. The project has been sanctioned under the renovation and improvement scheme (RMI), and its estimated cost is Rs 6 crore. The work is expected to commence in January 2016. 
Benjamin said that similar would be taken up Sao Jose de Areal at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh, in the second phase.
Explaining the delay in taking up the project, Benjamin said that after became an MLA, he got the electric work tendered twice, but there were no takers. Now, the power department itself would take up the project, he added.
