Property worth Rs 1.5 lakh destroyed in Saligao fire

Property worth Rs 1.5 lakh was destroyed, after a house was gutted in a fire due to short circuit at Tabra Vaddo, Saligao, on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, a house belonging to Lobo’s family was in flames, destroying goods worth Rs 1.50 lakh. Mapusa fire personnel with the help of fire brigade dozed off the fire. Calangute Police also rushed to the site.
Former Saligao sarpanch Bholanath Ghadi Sankhalkar, who was alerted on the incident by Calangute Police, also rushed to the site and helped in the rescue act to prevent further damage to the property.
According to the family members, they had left for shopping half an hour before the incident. The neighbours, who noticed the fire, called the fire station for help. The fire brigade was immediately put into service to put off the fire. A gas cylinder was removed from the kitchen to avoid any mishap and further damages.
The house which was renovated six years ago was totally painted dark due to the smoke and flames. The wooden roof of the house was fully damaged, while tiles and glasses were broken.
The refrigerator was fully burnt to ashes with only the aluminum frames intact. The entire electrical wiring was gutted in fire. Except for the gas cylinder, all the household items in the house were burnt, but luckily the Lobo’s were in the process of shifting their belongings to another place and thus survived huge losses. Calangute Police is investigating the case.
