It may be recalled that a Kabrastan is being built near the cemetery, and Borda parishioners had recently raised objections to the clearance work underway at the site in Sonsoddo.
A large group of Borda parishioners attended the meeting on Sunday. There were also fears that a mosque would also be constructed later.
While there was no outcome to the meeting, it was decided that all the details of the kabrastan would be presented to the Chaplain Fr Vincent Leito. It was also resolved that there should be proper demarcation of the 30,000 sq mts area that had been acquired for the kabrastan.
There were suggestions for a buffer zone between the two burial grounds to ensure that the grounds are used only for burials and not to allow any other structures to come up.
Fr Leitao, Fr Savio Fernandes, Fr Maverick Fernandes, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, MMC chairperson Babita Angle, MMC councillor Tito Cardozo were also present for the meeting.
The two MLAs assured to address the concerns and respect the sentiment of both communities while finding a solution to the issue.
