PANJIM: The All Goa Private Bus Owners’ Association (AGPBOA) has opposed the 15-year scrap policy for vehicles claiming it will add to financial burden on the bus operators.
At a press conference on Saturday, Association leader Sudip Tamhankar said they will meet Union Minister Shripad Naik to redress the issue.
“The 15 years scrap policy by Central Government is arbitrary. It will put unwanted financial pressure on the bus owners. We will meet Member of Parliament Shripad Naik to fix an appointment with the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari with a hope both will resolve our issue,” he said.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced a new vehicle scrapping policy in the Union Budget 2021 stating that holding on to 15-year-old vehicles will cost more after the voluntary vehicle scrapping policy comes into effect.
It is learnt that the cost of getting a fitness certificate for commercial vehicles will go up by up to 62 times whereas the fee for renewal of registration of private vehicles will increase by up to eight times. The association has also slammed increase in the price of diesel demanding it be reduced and that pending fuel subsidy amount as well pending insurance policy be released.
Tamhankar also added that they will meet the Director of Transport on Monday for a solution to their issues.
