PANJIM: In less than a fortnight after Herald reported about the pathetic road conditions along the National Highway running through Porvorim and CHOGM road; the Public Works Department (PWD) has begun temporary repairs of the damaged patches.
Housing Board Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar had raised the issue with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar soon after Herald reported about the poor conditions of the road at a time when Goa is witnessing huge influx of international and domestic tourists. Besides the pockets of the Highway; Saligao, Calangute, Candolim, and other roads linking to the tourist hubs have been in bad shape for several months with little attention paid to its restoration. Locals also complained that the repair works were temporary, which would get washed away during rains.
Meanwhile, the patch-up works are ongoing with the authorities claiming the same would be ready in the next few days. Content with the outcome, the minister took to Twitter stating, “CHOGM road under-going maintenance work. Filling of potholes from O’Coqueiro circle to Saligao Circle.” He also posted photos of the works being undertaken along this stretch.
