PWD Min assures stern action against untreated sewage water disposal

MARGAO: Minister for Public Works Department Deepak Pauskar on Tuesday warned of stern action against the officers involved in releasing raw untreated sewage water into the open fields and nullahs.
Speaking to Herald, he also said that the single evidence will be enough for him to initiate the action.
A few days back Herald had exposed the activities in the two sewage treatment plants at Shirvodem, Navelim wherein the untreated sewage water being released into the open fields and rivulet leading to the River Sal.
Besides, the overflowing raw sewage at South Goa District Hospital and also at the District Collectorate Complex was noticed and still continues to date.
When, contacted PWD Minister said that nobody is allowed to release the raw and untreated sewage into the open fields and rivulet or into the nullahs from the sewage treatment plants.
“The department will make sure that the concerned officials involved in these activities will be punished. Will take stern action against the concerned person if proved to release the raw sewage into the open fields,” he stated.
It may be recalled that Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had fined the PWD for deliberately releasing sewage water into the open fields behind the Kadamba Bus Stand, Margao.
