CANACONA: A PWD team has been engaged to excavate the foundation of the collapsed Ruby Residency building at Chaudi on Friday.
The excavation is reportedly a part of investigation being carried by the Jha Commission to find the depth and durability of the foundation of collapsed under construction building, which claimed lives of 31 people and left several others injured on January 4, this year.
It may be recalled that authorities after completing the rescue operations which went on for several days had sealed the southern side of the residential complex, which also has two other blocks besides a row house complex in the vicinity. On Friday morning, a PWD team consisting of a junior engineer, two supervisors and few workers started to excavate with the help of a JCB at the ground floor plinth area of the collapsed building, which incidentally has an over 15 metres high retaining wall.
Unconfirmed reports informed that two top PWD officials also visited the site and supervised the work, which is incidentally carried out in very close proximity of two other buildings, which were earlier declared unsafe. One building was even declared as having tilted on its side to a great level.
When approached, forbidding the entry inside the restricted area, personnel guarding the area informed scribes that excavation is being carried as part of investigation by the Jha Commission. The excavation is carried out by PWD team, especially designated to carry out the operation to assist a technical team, informed sources.
