P’yat Minister launches public utility works

VASCO: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho along with Sancoale sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and panchas launched several public utility works.

Major works such as widening of MES College junction and a multipurpose cyclone shelter were launched. Mauvin informed that multipurpose cyclone shelter projects at Cuelim and Sancoale will provide emergency shelter to people during natural calamities and will be set up within a year. In Goa before there was no such facility. Now, the World Bank will sponsor Rs 4.5 crore for this infrastructure.

He said the same infrastructure could be used by panchayat members as a mini office wherein a panchayat member could come once a week and support the people in their work. The same place could be also used for personal functions.

On 3 linear projects, he said if people are properly informed about these projects then they won’t oppose. Usually, people tend to connect coal and the broad gauging, but if people are convinced that there is no relation between these two things then there won’t be any opposition. Natural Port of Mormugao should be utilised to the fullest. Import and export of cargo should happen which would generate employment and economic activity.

He said CM has assured that the coal will be reduced to 50 per cent so there is no chance that Goa will become a coal hub.
