MAPUSA: Claiming that panchayats merely pass resolutions at the Gram Sabha and forward it to the government, Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar insisted that panchayats should also follow up on the resolutions through the local MLA.
Mandrekar was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a retaining wall at the Fabrica da Igreja de Colvale in the presence of Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar and Parish Priest Fr Simao Rodrigues at Colvale on Thursday.
“Development is possible only if both the panchayat and local MLA coordinate with the State government, leaving aside party politics,” said Mandrekar.
Kiran Kandolkar stated that the 32-metre long retaining wall of the Colvale Church is being constructed by spending Rs 23.61 lakh, adding that the wall will be constructed within 60 days.
“Rumours are being spread by some people that government does not have funds for developmental works. The State government is financially sound and during the last three years, I have undertaken lot of development works in Tivim constituency,” he said.
“If the people concerned issue no-objection certificates, then the development of Colvale ground can be undertaken,” added Kandolkar.
Parish priest Fr Simao Rodrigues also spoke on the occasion and thanked the government for undertaking the construction work of retaining wall at Colvale Church.
Servo Fernandes welcomed the gathering and also proposed the vote of thanks.
