MARGAO: The Director of Panchayats has warned that panchayats that fail to form village development committees (VDC) by September 3, would be denied fund allocation.
According to a recent circular issued by the Director of Panchayats, the panchayats will miss the bus on funds allocation if they do not form village development committees at the gram sabha on September 3. This has created fear and anxiety among the panchayats.
Some panchayats that have not set up the various committees in the July gram sabha, are reportedly attempting to dodge the issue saying that the September 3 gram sabha is for setting up only the village development committee and therefore no other committee would be set up.
The village development committee is to be constituted after the other committees are constituted so that the members of the other committees could be included in it.
Curtorim Panchayat has formed all the committees needed to be in place before the VDC is formed. However, some panchayats in Salcete’s coastal belt have say that they have received the communication very late due to holidays and several other reasons.
