CURCHOREM: Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) initiated special drive to curb stray cattle menace in its jurisdiction.
Municipal officials including chairperson Filu D’Costa, chief officer Pramod Dessai, municipal engineer Nitin Kotharkar, market inspector, cattle pounder along with labourers carried out the drive at Cotta-Amona, near Pope John XXIII School and Tilamol junction.
Speaking to media after the drive, chairperson D’Costa said that the drive was necessary as number of stray cattle were moving freely on busy roads creating nuisance and posing danger for motorist particularly riders.
Warning the cattle owners, D’Costa said if any cattle are found on road in their jurisdiction the same would be impounded and fine will be imposed on the owners. D’Costa urged the public including cattle owners to cooperate with the council decision to keep roads free from the cattle.
