QUEPEM: A group of people from Xeldem, Quepem, held a protest against an alleged land scam, wherein unidentified land-grabbers have encroached into a vast property belonging to the Chandrashwar Bhootnath Parvat Temple at Amona, and have undertaken levelling work at the site, they said.

The protesters, who are mahajans affiliated with the temple, said they had complained to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) about the alleged land-grab, but no action was taken.
According to the group, a fraudulent deed of transfer of land belonging to the temple has been executed on October 20, 2021 at Quepem. “The mutation application was submitted to the Mamlatdar of Quepem (inward No 7402, Dated 23/11/2021) The said transfer has been executed for Survey Number 6/0 and 39/199 of Amona village. The total valuation of the fraudulent transaction, as per the documents we have obtained, is Rs 5.95 crore,” said Aditya Raut Dessai, one of the protesters. “Unknown people have levelled the land and started building a road without permission from the authorities. We submitted a trespass complaint to the SP, South Goa, and the District Collector on November 25 this year but no action has been initiated by authorities,” added Dessai.
“This land has been sold without any authorised documents,” alleged Prashant Gauns Dessai.
“We had filed a complaint with the Forest Department about the clandestine felling of trees a year ago, but did not get any response,” added Vishal Gauns Dessai.
