MARGAO: With the Raia Panchayat postponing its gram sabha, Rachol, on Sunday, approved a surplus budget besides postponing the meet for the second time on the formation of the Village Biodiversity Committee as there were only 12 villagers present.
The Raia gram sabha was supposed to be held on Sunday but the panchayat on Saturday moved a vehicle throughout the village announcing that the Sunday’s gram sabha has been postponed to March 29 after the Zilla Panchayat elections.
Rachol gram sabha was chaired by the Deputy Sarpanch Querobino Gomes following Sarpanch Eni Joanita’s resignation. After reading and confirming the minutes of the last gram sabha, the budget was taken up for discussion.
The total expenditure projected for 2020-21 is Rs 53.89 lakh, while the income expected to be Rs 55.03 lakh.
Besides this surplus income, the panchayat also has Rs 27.20 lakh as opening balance.
Grants amounting to Rs 47.50 lakh have been projected as the major source of income of which, Rs 3,000 per month is likely to be the grant for garbage management.
Rs 10 lakh is expected from the 14th Finance Commission and the house tax is expected to be only Rs 4 lakh.
Interestingly, while the panchayat expects only Rs 1 lakh from construction licence fee, it expects Rs 70,000 as interest from the banks.
