Raia warns of agitation

MARGAO, JUNE 28
The Raia village Panchayat has warned of an agitation if the Margao Municipal council utilise the 30,000 square meters of acquired land opposite the Sonsodo dumpyard for the proposed kabrastan.
Raia Sarpanch Savio Gomes telephoned MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho after the meeting and stated that Raia villagers would not tolerate any move to convert the land admeasuring 30,000 square meters acquired by the Civic body for burial grounds or for garbage dumping.
“The Raia villagers are opposed to any move to utilise the acquired land for a kabrastan or garbage dumping. The villagers want the land to be utilised for a police outpost and a recreation park for the locals”, he asserted.
