Raids Reveal Offshore Transactions and Handwritten Notes in Veena Vijayan Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced it has uncovered evidence indicating that Veena Vijayan, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, used hawala routes to transfer funds overseas. The revelation follows agency raids across eight locations tied to the ongoing money laundering investigation into Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions, an IT firm owned by Veena.

According to an official release by the financial watchdog, investigators seized digital evidence and statements pointing toward off-the-books transactions in both UAE Dirham and Indian rupees. The ED asserted that Veena was managing finances well beyond her established revenue streams. Handwritten accounts retrieved during searches reportedly detail transfers totaling 3.49 lakh UAE Dirham (approximately ₹85 lakh) into Dubai accounts, along with domestic entries tracking approximately ₹20.05 crore.

The fresh round of searches targeted individuals associated with CPI(M) leaders close to Veena’s husband, Muhammed Riyas, a legislator representing Beypore in Kozhikode. This action comes three months after an earlier series of raids conducted on May 27 at properties belonging to Veena and her father.

Agency officials noted that documents recovered during the May operation led to the identification of hidden accounts detailing personal funds, expenditure, and foreign remittances. Furthermore, digital forensics retrieved a photograph of a third-party SIM card used inside a Wi-Fi router, which investigators suspect was deployed to execute encrypted, internet-based communications. The individuals named in the recovered handwritten logs and the person registered to the SIM card were among those targeted in the recent searches.
