PONDA: The recent summer showers in Ponda Taluka brought some relief from the scorching heat but also revealed the unpreparedness of the authorities in both the municipal and panchayat areas for the upcoming monsoon season. Ponda residents are calling for urgent action to clean gutters and undertake pre-monsoon preparations.
The rain caused choked gutters in various parts of the taluka to overflow, spewing their contents onto the roads. These gutters, filled with mud from development work and garbage, have not been de-silted, leading to inconvenience for pedestrians.

Additionally, the Ponda Market complex experienced significant damage due to the rain. A massive roof sheet was broken, allowing rainwater to gush down onto the floor. This created difficulties for visitors to the market, especially those purchasing essential groceries from fair price shops inside the complex. People were forced to walk through pools of accumulated water, posing a risk of slipping, particularly for those carrying heavy bags of rice or wheat.
