VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building currently under repairs was on Friday inundated with unseasonal rains.
The entire floor, cabins of the chairperson and the chief officer and officials and pay counters were damaged due to rains and the authorities later shifted counters and some valuable documents to safer places within the premises. There were no reports of any files being soaked with rain water.
MMC chairperson Damodar Kaskar held the contractor solely responsible for removing the roof tiles for repairs without informing the council when he was aware about the inclement weather. He said that the contractor had told them that he will undertake repairs of the roof only after making alternate arrangements and that they were planning to shift counters in the basement premises.
The repairs and renovation work of the Mormugao municipal building has been executed by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), he said.
The chairperson said that due to the contractor’s negligence, the top floor of the building was inundated with water while, the staff and the citizens had to face inconvenience.
