VALPOI: Heavy rains and cyclonic winds in Sattari destroyed crops worth Rs 4 lakh in the last 24 hours. Advoi was the worst affected place.
Several banana, areca nut and coconut plantations, among others, belonging to Baburao Rane, Jasingrao Desai, Udaysing Rane, Vaibhave Rane and Kalidas Desai were destroyed. The roof of Vaibhav’s house was also blown off, which allowing rainwater to enter the house and damage his household articles.
According to Valpoi fire personnel, a car belonging to Suman Gawas from Keri was damaged after a tree fell on it. Uprooted trees had also blocked several roads in the taluka. The Keri-Chorla road was blocked for two hours before fire personnel cleared away the fallen tree.
