CANACONA: Heavy rains with strong winds disrupted normal life in Canacona from the last five days. However, no untoward incidents were reported.
Canacona Fire Officer Mahadev Lolienkar said that trees were uprooted at many places damaging houses and cowsheds, besides blocking the National Highway-17 at Gulem and at Chaudi. Power supply was also disrupted at many places.
Vehicular traffic was disrupted near Karmalghat section nearly for half an hour after jungle trees collapsed on the road. The traffic resumed after fire personnel cleared the trees.
An old school at char rasta has collapsed and water has entered inside. The school was vacant for the last many years, said Natidae D’Sa who lives in the vicinity.
