Rains lash State

After a day's reprieve, heavy showers accompanied by winds lashed the capital city on Thursday afternoon. The Met department recorded 31 mm (1.2 inch) of rainfall for the day.

PANJIM: After a day’s reprieve, heavy showers accompanied by winds lashed the capital city on Thursday afternoon. The Met department recorded 31 mm (1.2 inch) of rainfall for the day. 

The total seasonal rainfall has been 374.7 mm (14inches). Monsoon has been active over Goa since last couple of days. IMD has predicted few spells of showers for the city in next 24 hours. 

Directorate of Fire and Emergency services received seven calls within a one hour span between 1.30 and 2.30pm, due to trees falling on roads, a house and a compound wall of a city based school. Since this was peak hour, traffic snarls were seen in several parts of the city, especially near schools. 

The maximum and minimum temperature for the day remained between 28.7 Degree Celsius and 26.5 Degree Celsius, respectively. 

Along with Panjim, Pernem received heavy downpour, with IMD recording 25.8 mm of rain. Sanguem (24mm), Mapusa (16mm) and Valpoi (14mm), Ponda, Margao, Canacona, Dabolim and Quepem also received showers.
