RAIPUR: To everyone’s awe, Raipur Municipal Corporation organized a ‘Kachra Mahotsav’ from January19 through January 22 to encourage and promote recycling and up cycling of waste that is generated in the city. The four-day festival had number of events that include workshops, performances, exhibition and some interesting installations to engage with.
It was made more intriguing by performance of internationally acclaimed bands like ‘Dharavi Rocks’ from Mumbai and ‘Thallavatam’ from Bangalore that enthralled the audience by playing captivating music with junk instruments like plastic bottles, trash cans and old pipes. They also let the audience have hands on experience on these instruments, while playing music live with them.
“Kachra Mahotsav was organized with the motive to showcase how garbage can be creatively utilized to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. I am thankful to the entire team for adopting a comprehensive, participative and engaging approach for the festival and making it a success,” said Shri. Rajat Bansal, Raipur Municipal Commissioner and CEO, Raipur Smart City Ltd.
The festival also provided a great platform for start-ups in the field of recycling and upcycling across India to exhibit and sells their products. Prominent brands like Jugaad, Elrhino, Reimagined, Paper Story, Kagaz Se amongst others, had on display an array of home décor, accessories, decorative boxes and other utility items made from paper, tetra packs animal dung, forest waste, cotton scrap and fabric.
Local talents from Raipur were not left behind. The festival provided a platform to these budding artists and they too made the festival an engaging experience for the audience with installations, street plays, alongside band performances.
City hygiene awards were also organized to acknowledge the efforts of citizens, restaurants, schools, colleges, hotels, residential colonies, hospitals amongst others to promote cleanliness in the city.
Amar Agarwal, Hon’ble Minister of State Urban Administration and Development graced the occasion as chief guest. Guest of Honour, Shri. Ramesh Bais and Hon’ble Mayor, Shri. Pramod Dubey presented the awards.
