PORVORIM: Town and Country Planning Minister VishwajitRane on Wednesday assured the members of the House that he would initiate action against the illegal  hill cutting at Cuncolim’s Cacnamoddi hill , after MLA Yuri Alemao alleged that the unauthorised hill-cutting is being carried out “with someone’s blessing”.

Rane said that a detailed site inspection will be undertaken by a team headed by the Chief Town Planner before July 18, and whatever action has to be taken will be initiated before July 22.

“I assure the House that the persons involved in the illegal activities will be booked,” the Minister said, urging the MLA to accompany the inspection team.

Earlier speaking, Alemao pointed out that the site is religiously sensitive for the people of Cacnamoddi at Panzorconi in Cuncolim. He said that rampant hill cutting is taking place with “someone’s blessings”.

Alemao said that the villagers also have strong belief that the area around the place of worship needs to be free from any commercial development.

The Minister also said that he would direct the department to review all the permissions granted for construction projects and take strict action wherever necessary.
