Chinchinim resident held for murder
MARGAO: Cuncolim police on Monday arrested Rupesh Ragunath Chari, 40, of Secarem wado, Chinchinim against whom a case of murder has been registered. The accused was produced in the court and has been remanded in police custody for 7 days. According to police, one Carson Fernandes and the accused had a scuffle in which Fernandes had a fall suffering injuries. Fernandes died at GMC hospital, Bambolim where he was undergoing treatment. Cuncolim police had registered an offence of murder and in the course of investigation it has came to light that the accused Chari slapped Fernandes. Further investigation is being conducted by Cuncolim PI.
Margao police register rash driving case
MARGAO: Margao police have registered an offence of rash and negligent driving causing damage under Sections 279, 427 of IPC against Harish Mayemkar, Poinguinim, Canacona on complaint from Jesica Fernandes, residing at Raja Plaza, Colmorod-Navelim. Fernandes has stated that Mayekar drove his car GA-08-A-2734 in rash and negligent manner and dashed against her parked car GA-08-A-1482 while proceeding from Margao to Navelim. Further inquiry is in progress.
Carambolim student duped of Rs 20 lakh
OLD GOA: A student from Saklembhat-Carambolim was duped of over Rs 20 lakh after being promised a seat for an MBBS course at a college in Kolhapur. According to Old Goa police, the girl complaint that an unknown accused had influenced her to pay Rs 15 lakh as donation fees to the college for her admission to the MBBS course and Rs 5,79,225 as yearly fees. The girl claimed that the accused subsequently withdrew all amounts from the bank but failed to provide her with admission into the college. The Old Goa Police has registered the offence under Section 420 IPC and is investigating the case.
FDA raid four places in Ponda, seizes unlicenced sweets
PONDA: The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) raided four places in Ponda taluka and seized unlicenced sweets and other food products worth about Rs 1.94 lakh. The FDA team under the guidance of its director Salim Velji and inspector Rajiv Korde raided the residence of Purushottam Vaishnav at Jaycee nagar, Ponda and seized unlicenced sweets worth Rs 95,000 which were being manufactured in an unhygienic manner. The FDA team then raided the residence of Jogaram Rathod at Velop wado in Kavlem-Ponda and seized unlicenced sweets worth Rs 25,000. Sweets worth Rs 34,000 were also seized from the residence of Dhanraj Vaishnav at Bondbag-Ponda Stock, while the fourth raid was conducted at the residence of Sunil Patel at Upper Bazar in Ponda, where the FDA team seized sweets worth Rs 40,000. All the seized goods were later destroyed by the FDA team.
Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary
PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee will commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on Wednesday at 9.30 am near his statue at Rajiv Gandhi Medical Complex, Bambolim. GPCC President John F Fernandes, Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane, MPs, MLAs, party leaders and party office bearers will be present for the function and will pay floral tribute, says a press note issued by GPCC General Secretary Altinho Gomes. Meanwhile, the South Goa district Congress committee will observe the birth anniversary of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20 at 4 pm at the district office, Margao.
Oral interview for Awal Karkun
PANJIM: The list of candidates qualified for oral interview for the post of Awal Karkun is displayed on the notice board of Office of Collectorate North Goa. The oral interview of these short-listed candidates is fixed from August 25 to 27. Individual call letters to appear for oral interview have been dispatched. In case any qualifying candidates have not received intimation he/she may contact the collector office. Candidates will be taken for interview in the order of application number and hence their turn may come anytime during the day.
