PANJIM: The two accused in the infamous rape of a 42-year-old woman from Margao, who was thrown out of the car in Miramar after the sexual assault, have been granted bail by the North Goa District Court.
Judge Sherin Paul granted bail to Gautam Raikar and Sarvesh Kauthankar who had been arrested for the alleged rape of the victim on the intervening night of June 11 and 12.
The counsel for the accused argued that the victim had come with the duo on her own consent and therefore there is no instance of rape.
The accused duo has been granted bail against a bond of Rs 25,000 and has been asked to report to the investigating officer for seven days. They are also forbidden from leaving Goa without proper permission.
The victim in her complaint to the Panjim Police had stated that the duo on the pretext of financial help took her to a hotel in Calangute on June 11 night and sexually assaulted her between 9 pm and 3.30 am. She further alleged that thereafter the duo brought her to Miramar and threw her out of the car.
The woman sustained injuries in the melee and an ambulance assisted her for treatment at the State-run hospital.
