Home Minister Ravi Naik today categorically said that the State government, under no circumstances will allow Sri Ram Sene (SRS), the Mangalore-based outfit of Pramod Muthalik, to set up its branch in Goa.
SRS evoked national outrage by attacking girls and boys at a Mangalore pub in January and had announced plans of setting up its unit in Goa.
Mr Naik said the SRS will not find any takers for their ideology in Goa.
‘The SRS will not find any takers here in Goa. We will not hesitate in banning the outfit,’ Mr Naik told reporters here.
M. Muthalik had made the announcement while addressing a rally at Vengurla in Maharashtra’s Konkan region this week.
‘This kind of outfits should be nipped in bud. If they intend to indulge in moral policing here, they would be dealt with very seriously,’ the Home Minister said.
‘Women are as free as men to decide what they want. Who are we to indulge in moral policing?’ Mr. Naik said.
Following the pub attack, Muthalik was banned from entering Mangalore district for one year by the district administrator on Monday. SRS became extremely active soon after BJP came to power in Karnataka.
