PANJIM: The Goa Government has declared Tuesday (February 7) as a “Public Holiday” for the employees/offices situated within the limits of polling station No 8 (Government Primary School, T B Cunha, Aquem) of 31-Margao Assembly constituency only being the “Polling Day” for the re-poll to the said polling station of the Goa Legislative Assembly election.
The holiday will be a “Paid Holiday” to state government employees, industrial workers, daily wage workers, employees of the commercial and industrial workers of private establishments, daily wage/casual workers employed in any business, trade, industrial undertakings or any other establishments who are voters of polling station No 8 of the Margao Assembly constituency.
Liquor shops, bars closed
In view of the above re-poll, the District Magistrate and District Election Officer, South Goa District, Margao, has ordered the closure of all liquor shops/bars and restaurants, pubs, food joints, shacks, etc. on February 7, in Margao, Nuvem, Curtorim, Fatorda, Benaulim and Navelim constituencies to ensure free and fair conduct of the election process.
If any liquor shops/bar and restaurant and pubs, food, joints, shacks, etc. are found open, it shall lead to cancellation of their licences and the owner will also be liable for penal action under Section 188 of IPC.
Ban on liquor transportation
In exercise of the powers conferred by Sections 5 and 8 of the Goa Excise Duty Act, 1964 (Act 5 of 1964), the Government of Goa has prescribed that no liquor shall be transported from one place to another within the jurisdiction of Margao constituency.
The maximum quantity of liquor which can be possessed by any person within the jurisdiction of Margao Constituency without a permit issued in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and the rules include three quart bottles of Indian made foreign liquor or foreign liquor other than beer and six bottles of beer of 650 ml for any person including his family.
