For the benefit of the State the newly announced IIT and the world class Convention Centre (for IFFI) is on the cusp of becoming a reality.
— Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
It’s a very good budget, which thinks of fiscal deficit and induces growth. It is a prudent budget for all section of people. Considering the present economic crisis, it is one of the best jobs done by the Finance Minister for overall financial growth of the country.
— Dr Wilfred Mesquita, BJP spokesperson
The FM today has defined himself as the executioner who wielded the axe to kill the hopes and aspirations of the common man in Goa. IIT and convention centre has been given to Goa but there is no assurance on mining. No mention about financial package/special status as promised by them prior to polls. This budget lacks the vision and mission of self claimed ‘Acche din’ by BJP. This budget is just a trailer of U-turns in first 45 days of coming to power.
— Durgadas Kamat, GPCC spokesperson
This budget is a bundle of contradictions. He (FM) talks about reviving growth on manufacturing and infrastructure and in the same breath, he speaks need to generate resources. How will the money come and resources generate? The health, subsidy and various other sectors are of no benefit to middle and low class. For the sake of Goa, only IIM, IIT and a separate medical college is announced. There is nothing which shall relate Goans except it will be more crowded with new centres coming up. What about those dependent on mining?
— Jitendra Deshprabhu, Congress leader
FM Arun Jaitley has done a fairly good job while presenting his maiden Budget by focusing on job creation by encouraging investments and spurring economic growth. He has aimed at dispelling the uncertainties in the Indian Tax System by clearly stating that there will be no retrospective changes in taxes. This will pave way for a lot of FDI inflow which is urgently needed to finance a lot of infrastructure and other projects including defence.
— Narayan Bandekar, GCCI president
As a political party we believe that the future of our country and State can only be written in gold lettering if we teach our citizens to fish and not give fish in their hands. The Budget is a start in that direction, wherein the government must act as facilitators of entrepreneurship and growth. It is heartening to see Goa being featured in the Budget with the decision for the setting-up of an IIT Centre as well as plans to create a world class convention centre.
— Floriano Lobo, GSRP General Secretary
A welcome sign is the Rs 10,000 cr fund for promoting start-ups announced in the Budget. This should result in more incubators for software and availability of capital promoting entrepreneurship.
— Kirit Maganlal, Chairman CII Goa State Council
Goa has now arrived on the national scene… Highlighting the importance of Goa emerging as a major international convention destination the provisions to develop world class convention facilities is a positive sign. Goa had a huge disadvantage on account of lack of convention facilities, which hopefully will be taken care of by the allocation in the new budget.
— Francisco de Braganca, TTAG President
This government is planning to spend Rs 500 crore for building statues and war memorials. What is the need for a war memorial when millions are finding it tough to live a decent life. It is apity what our country has become.
— Suhas Naik, CPI
Was very happy and this budget had the key to a prosperous future. An emphasis was made to encourage manufacturing which had suffered over the past couple of years. The FM had walked a thin line considering the fiscal position and the developing situation in Iraq which could result in an increase in oil prices.
— Sandeep Bhandare, GCCI Vice President
This will mean that there will be a knock on effect on the economy with people in the area benefitting from the entry of students and teachers who would spend money. It would also help Goan students he said with them getting the best education in the country right here.
— Santosh Kenkre, EDC Vice Chairman
