Recovery of Rs 21 lakh in house tax arrears dominates Bandora gram sabha

The members also sought solutions for the garbage issue, as the panchayat spends Rs one lakh on waste management each month

PONDA: At the Bandora panchayat Gram Sabha held recently, one of the key topics of discussion was the recovery of pending house tax arrears. Sarpanch Sukanand Kurpaskar highlighted the ongoing efforts made during his eight-month tenure, resulting in the successful collection of over Rs eleven lakh in pending dues.

Local participants in the discussion emphasized the importance of recovering all outstanding dues to generate revenue and facilitate further development work. They noted that there is a total of Rs 21 lakh in house tax arrears owed by homeowners and stressed the need to issue demand notices to ensure timely recovery.

In addition, the Gramsabha explored the possibility of implementing a garbage tax. Currently, a significant amount of garbage is being generated in Ward 9 and 10.

The Sarpanch mentioned that the Panchayat has not received any funds from the government for garbage disposal. As a result, more than Rs 1 lakh per month is being allocated from the Panchayat’s own funds for garbage collection and disposal. The Panchayat intends to commence wet garbage disposal pending approval of their proposal by the Director of Panchayat.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to secure a plot of ten thousand square meters for the construction of a dedicated garbage disposal plant, as the existing space near the Panchayat is currently utilized as a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed. The Sarpanch also revealed the Panchayat’s proposal to construct a crematorium and designated spots for idol immersion.

These initiatives aim to cater to the needs of the community and enhance essential infrastructure within the area.
