PANJIM: Congress’ South Goa candidate Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco is confident of Goa Vikas Party (GVP) extending support to him for the forthcoming LS polls.
Lourenco said that he will shortly have talks with GVP leaders and that he was confident that the party would support him and the Congress.
GVP with two MLAs Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco and Caetano Silva are in government by extending their support to BJP-led regime.
Pacheco has already expressed willingness to contest from South Goa for the polls.
The Congress and NCP leaders said that the entry of Pramod Muthalik in BJP was one of the reason behind both the parties joining hands for the LS polls.
“The alliance happened because NCP realized that we should fight against BJP and not amongst ourselves,” Congress South Goa candidate Lourenco said adding that the alliance talks gained momentum after Muthalik’s BJP entry.
NCP chief spokesman Trajano D’Mello said that Muthalik had promised that he will join BJP and make his entry in Goa…with his entry in BJP is all set to spoil the social fabric of the State.
Muthalik heads the Sri Ram Sene and joined BJP in Karnataka. He was debarred from starting his Goa branch with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announcing not to allow him entry in the State.
