Another major protest led by activist lawyer Ajitsingh Rane was of Security Guards. Rane formed a union called Goa Recruitment and Employment Employees Union and announced its strike against the state government. Like CCP workers, the security guards afiliated under the banner of Goa Recruitment and Employment Employees Union demanded regularisation of their services. Around
120 workers kept their faith in their leader Rane and declared a ‘fast until death’. The security guards were on an indeinite
strike for more than a month.
Reacting to the ferocious agitation led by Rane, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar called the union leader a ‘Freak’. Parsekar had said, “The leader of Goa Recruitment and Employment Employees Union is a freak and is taking workers and employees in different government
departments on temporary as well as contract basis for a ride.”
However after a month long agitation, the state government assured them to deploy these workers in government services through Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC). Currently most the workers are still unemployed in the corporation.
