PONDA: Following O Heraldo’s news reports about the hardships faced by passengers due to the lack of toilet facilities, the toilet complex at Ponda’s KTC bus stand has finally reopened, bringing much-needed relief, especially to female passengers.
For the past two to three months, the existing toilet facility had been closed by the operator without any alternative arrangements such as temporary or bio-toilets. This closure caused significant difficulties for passengers at the KTC Bus Stand, an interstate bus hub. Although work on a new toilet began six months ago, it remains incomplete, forcing female passengers to risk using open areas to answer nature’s call.

In response to the closure, O Heraldo published a series of news reports highlighting the issue. During a recent visit to the KTC Bus Stand, consumer activist Roland Martins of GOACAN expressed shock at the lack of toilet facilities. He filed a complaint with the Ponda Deputy Collector, requesting various facilities at the bus stand, including toilets, drinking water, and proper information boards for passengers.
Martins pointed out that while there are many advertisement boards generating revenue for KTC, amenities for passengers, such as toilets, were neglected. He urged the authorities to provide these essential facilities before schools reopen on June 4.
Martins also asserted that the lack of basic facilities at the KTC Bus Stand constitutes a deficiency of service under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
