VASCO: After successfully demolishing 201 structures at Baina last year, the Goa Coastal Zone management Authority (GCZMA) has now decided to issue eviction notices to remaining 121 illegal structures along the beach to complete the third and final phase of demolition.
CGZMA sources confirmed that a report submitted by the South Goa Collector on the remaining illegal structures at Baina shore was placed at the GCZMA meeting held on April 29 2016 and after due discussion on the issue, it was decided to issue notices to all 121 remaining structures (including fishermen’s houses) and to give them 15 days time to file reply. “Yes the issue was placed in the 127th GCZMA meeting and as it was ongoing case on which NGT and High Court had passed some orders, therefore it has been decided to issue eviction notices to all the 121 remaining structures along the Baina shore under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. We would give them 15 days time to file their reply and any decision on demolition would be only after affected families file their reply to us,” informed a GCZMA official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said, in Mormugao Mamlatdar, on November 4, 2016, three different teams comprising of talathi, a official from land and survey dept had kick started survey of the remaining illegal structures that were left after the demolition of 201 structures in Sept last year.
“The teams prepared a checklist like details of head of family, number of people, supporting documents with regards to respective structure, even measurement of area of all existing structures including structures owned by fishermen. In the checklist, all the structures located from old demolition site near Sulabh toilet at Baina beach till the sewage treatment plant at Katem Baina were identified and on November 18, 2015, a survey was completed in which we had identified a total of 121 structures. The checklist prepared by Mormugao Mamlatdar team then submitted the report to the Dy Collector Mormugao who then forwarded the same to South Collector and finally the same report was submitted before GCZMA and these 121 identified structures may now face demolition” sources told Herald.
