PANJIM: A group of activists under the banner of Goa Green Brigade demanded that investigation into the death of Fr Bismarque Dias be reopened.
Addressing the media, the group condemned the closure of the case that gave the reason of death as accidental drowning and asphyxia.
Advocate Peter D’Souza, a member on the core committee inquiring the case, said the key witness, a lady from St Estevam was neither quizzed nor her statement recorded by Crime Branch.
D’Souza said Bismarque’s death was not accidental and claimed that the police were out to protect those involved in killing the priest. He also pointed out that Bismarque’s vest was found at a spot away from the incident site.
“Police have not looked into the matter of the vest, how it was lifted and by whom,” D’Souza said.
Sabina Martins, condemning the closure report, said proper procedures have not been followed. She said that though the family has been following the case they have not been intimated about the order claiming the death as accidental.
