MARGAO: Taking cognisance of the arrest of Sanguem Mamlatdar Anish Prabhudessai by the Colva police in an assault case, the South Goa district Collector Dr Sachin Shinde has called for a report from the authorities on the issue.
Shinde told Herald that necessary action, if any, will be initiated against the Mamlatdar only after going through the report submitted by the authorities. “I was informed over the phone that the Sanguem Mamlatdar was arrested by the Colva police in an assault case. I have called for an inquiry report into the episode”, Dr Shinde said.
Colva police had arrested the Sanguem Mamlatdar on Friday in connection with the alleged assault on Domnick Furtado, a resident of Navelim, at a restaurant in Colva.
Prabhudessai was arrested by the police and was released on bail by Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao, Ajit Panchwadkar, on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and a surety in like amount of a government employee. The SDM has further directed the police to produce the accused before his office.
Colva Police station in-charge PI Uttam Raut Desai had told Herald that the Colva police had registered the non-cognizable case against the Sanguem Mamlatdar following a complaint lodged by the complainant.
