PANJIM:
Peeved over delayed action against the teacher who allegedly molested a student, Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) Chairperson Ezilda Sapeco Friday said she would be seeking an explanation from Panjim Police Inspector Uttam Raut Desai.
NGO CRG Thursday evening filed a case of molestation against the government school teacher after Panjim police refused to entertain the complaint filed by the victim’s family five days ago.
The incident came to light when the 14-year-old, on intense questioning told her mother that she was sexually abused by Kannaiya Naik at his Ribandar flat on December 31, 2011.
The girl would go for coaching classes at his place.  Police cited the reason that the victim’s father withdrew the complaint at the last minute as a result of which a case was not registered. But the police also failed to register a suo-moto case on behalf of the State.
The Women’s commission will meet the victim’s family to offer any assistance for the case. Since the police claimed non-cooperation from the girl’s father, Sapeco said, they might engage an interpreter (since the victim’s family members are migrants) to convince the father to cooperate with the investigation. The Commission will closely monitor probe into the case.
