MARGAO: In an interesting development on the Colva police constable suicide bid case, an inquiry report has mulled registration of complaint and investigation of the complaint of harassment against Colva Police station in-charge, PI Uttam Raut Desai and the cross complaint of robbery lodged by a Colva resident against Constable Rohan Naik.
More than a week after Sub-divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Mohan Naik submitted his report to the district police Chief, Shekhar Prabhudessai, the report has been forwarded to the police headquarters for suitable action. “I have submitted the SDPO’s report along with my recommendation to the Police higher-ups for necessary action. The inquiry report has recommended registration of complaint and investigation against both the PI and the constable,” SP Prabhudessai told Herald.
Replying to a question, he said the police will take a call on the registration of case and the police officer, who will investigate the complaint and cross compliant against the PI and constable after receiving a nod from the headquarters.
Sources said that senior police officers favour investigations into the complaint and cross complaint to unearth the true facts vis-a-vis the allegations levelled by PI Desai as well as by constable Rohan.
In his dying declaration, the constable had alleged harassment at the hands of the Colva police station in-charge, which drove him to take the drastic step of consuming ratol cake at the Colva police station barracks on December 10 last. This was followed by a complaint lodged by Rohan’s father Topu H Naik, who demanded registration of a criminal offense against the Colva PI for abetment to commit suicide.
On the other hand, PI Raut Desai had rubbished the allegation of harassment. PI Raut Desai had argued that he had only questioned the constable after a Colva resident demanded return of money amounting to Rs 15,000 which was allegedly seized by constable Rohan while conducting a raid on gambling. A senior police officer said criminal investigation will help unearth why the constable did not report the allegation of harassment to the SDPO or the SP.
