MAPUSA: North Goa District Congress Committee president Vijay Bhike said the locals are angry over acute water shortage in Bardez.
Addressing a press conference at Mapusa on Monday, the committee threatened to march to the assembly with the muddy water received by the people if the issue is not resolved within the next 48 hours.
He revealed that last year in Duler the pipeline was broken and repaired. Inspection was carried out and an assurance was given to provide the locals with 24 hours of water supply.
“Till now nothing has been done as the issue of water scarcity is plaguing the people of Mapusa. Some are receiving irregular water supply and others muddy water. How can they supply water for only one hour with no fixed timings and that too irregular? Do they expect the people to drink packaged water? There is some problem with the filtration at Assonora plant. We will give them an ultimatum of 48 hours or we will gherao the water department and go to the assembly with the muddy water to give CM to drink,” warned Bhike.
“There are 18 councillors in Mapusa, BJP government is in power and the MLA is also from Mapusa. The people should get at least regular and potable water. Even though it is raining many people are not getting proper water. The water received is not potable. People have to leave their jobs and wait to see when water will come. Various NGOs have extended support to us on this issue,” added Bhike.
Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar said water, electricity and roads are the basic facilities that the government should provide. “The government is least bothered about the people and their problems. There is a water issue in Bardez sinc last Chaturthi. We are fed up with all the assurances. We would like to give a glass of this dirty water received by the residents in Mapusa to the CM, PWD Minister and all Bardez MLAs. Who can drink water with mud and worms, which is not potable? Even after boiling it still dirty. The common man does not have a filter and neither is it possible to buy packaged water every day,” said Panjikar.
