VASCO: Hundreds of revellers thronged Vasco to witness the Carnival floats parade, with the port town wearing a festive look on Monday evening.
The streets of Vasco and the St Andrew’s Church junction were brightly decorated, as floats participated in the Carnival parade with live bands marching through Swantantra Path road and the participants dancing to the tunes of music. Young as well as old were seen wearing Carnival masks and swaying to the tune of music.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida flagged off the floats parade in the presence of CMD Goa Shipyard Ltd Rear Admiral (Retd) Shekar Mital, Carnival Committee Chairperson Lavina D’Souza, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Sumita Usgaokar, councillors and other Carnival committee members. The float of King Momo led the parade followed by other floats.
Speaking to Herald, a senior citizen, Karl D’Cruz felt that it was for the first time there was all round participation at the Carnival, as entertainment programmes were organised at various locations in the port town.
Vasco Carnival Committee Chairperson D’Souza said “though it was an uphill task to organise the four-day Carnival programme, the help and support of both legislators from the port town and the committee members ensured that Vasco Carnival was a success.“
Mormugao MLA Milind Naik urged the spectators to pass on the message to their children spread by the floats not to drink and consume drugs.
Curchorem:A large number of people from Curchorem and surroundings areas witnessed the Carnival floats at Curchorem on Monday.
The Carnival floats parade, which commenced from near Curchorem Railway station, was flagged off by Ravindra Bhavan (Margao) Chairman Damodar (Damu) Naik in the presence of GTDC Chairman and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai, Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Carmelina Fernandes, councillors, panchas and others on Monday.
The floats parade was organized by Centro Social Anjo Custodio Club in association with Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and CCMC.
The floats were organised in three categories, Traditional, Junk Car rally, Clown and Club/Institutional.
After the parade, a Konkani musical show featuring Tiatr artistes was staged, followed by DJ Alley.
