PANJIM, MAY 14-GBS and HSE has decided to change the controversial matter in the Std VII history text which had come under scathing criticism by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), along with like minded organisations, parents and teachers. A nation wide agitation against was launched against what HJS termed as a distorted history.
Out of the 154 pages of the history text book of Std VII, most of the pages were dedicated to the information on Mughals and other Muslim kings whereas the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who fought the foreign Mughal aggressors, was given just 4 lines. While the book contained pictures of kings of 16th century like Babar, Akbar etc, there was not a single picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who ruled in the 17th century. Strangely, the book also ignored even Maharana Pratap, the great warrior king of Rajasthan. local history was also not included despite its inclusion being mandatory, says a press release. (HND)
Thus, the HJS and other likeminded organisations had staged an agitation to demand immediate withdrawal of this book from the curriculum.
Finally, the GBS and HSE took cognizance of this agitation and a review committee has been appointed to study the
book and suggest necessary changes.
