PANJIM: The State government is studying the various laws and steps initiated by neighbouring States before filing a review petition in the Supreme Court on the highway liquor ban.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the excise department has already initiated some measures due to which a majority of the liquor outlets will get relief from the apex court order. “Further, I am also studying the different laws and steps initiated by various states. Once that is done, we will file the review petition, the process has started. Once I complete the exercise, we will file the petition,” he said.
Soon after the SC pronounced a partially modified order banning serving and selling of alcohol within 500 mtrs of highways on March 31, Parrikar had sought three months time to either challenge the order or file a review petition in a bid to salvage the business of thousands of Goan families.
As per the Excise department, 3,210 units had come under the purview of the SC order in December 2016.
