Revolutionary Goans ‘threaten’ Usgao family; complaint filed

Crackdown on illegal activities in village, or face legal action, Revolutionary Goans warn panchayat

PONDA: A complaint has been filed at Ponda police station against the members and president of Revolutionary Goans for allegedly threatening a family at Usgao, on Friday.

The complaint has been filed by one Rajiv Shankar Jha and Revolutionary Indians.

Meanwhile, addressing the media here, members of Revolutionary Indians, an association of migrants, alleged that Revolutionary Goans President Manoj Parab “is harassing them for bening migrants.”

“Today Parab visited a migrant family in Usgao and threatened the members. We have constitutional right to reside in any part of India,” they said.

Ponda police said they are verifying and investigating into complaint of harassment by members and president of Revolutionary Goans.

However, Parab denied that Revolutionary Goans “are harassing and threatening anyone.  “We want stop illegal activities. We are fighting against illegal activities legally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Usgao villagers and the Revolutionary Goans have warned the Usgao panchayat members of legal action, if they fail to crackdown on illegal activities in the panchayat area.

Addressing the media in Usgao, Revolutionary Goans President Manoj Parab said that his organisation would file disqualification petition against the panchayat members for failing to implement the resolutions adopted at gram sabhas.

He alleged that politicians are encouraging the migrants to construct illegal houses. “Besides, with the backing of the politicians, many migrants have adopted Goan surnames,” he alleged.

The villagers, at the press briefing, said that the Usgao gram sabha has adopted various resolutions to curb illegal activities, demolish scrap yards in the village, and prevent illegal constructions and illegal vending. However, they alleged, the panchayat has failed to curb the illegalities.
